I still remember how we madly did it. Me and one of my friend went to shimla to get railway tickets for our native, when we were in college in Solan, HP. After reaching railway station we just felt to release out our boredom and decided to go little further, very little, to MANALI, which is just 250km from shimla, mind it, it was an unplanned trip, without any backpacks, without any extra clothing apart from what was hanging from our body, and I was in my floaters btw because I went to just buy railway tickets :) I just bought 2 pair of socks to prevent my foot from excessive cold, since it was february and snowfall was expected in manali. And here we go....2 mad people on bike trip of 500km to and fro
We just targeted for Manali, didn't stop at many other wonderful places like kullu, sundernagar, palampur, etc
This is Sundernagar lake.
A DAM on the way.
The Beas river which flows along the road to manali, and the road is in the middle of two mountains, for a really long stretch, and our bike which we really pushed. This drive along the river is more fun if you have an open vehicle, if convertible BMW or merc is not in your pocket, then bike is the best option which we also chose.
This pic is not justifiable to what this scene really looked like and the experience we got. This is a tunnel on the way to manali, 3KM tunnel, what an experience to drive in it, if i remember right, there was no visibly clear light in the tunnel, the only light present is what u carry, on your vehicle. btw this is the same tunnel that is shown in 3 Idiots, in the beginning of the movie, to show the sperm race :)
We started from shimla post 12 noon, and we enjoyed everything on the way, stopped at small temples, the dams, the riverside, and by the time we realized it was dark, it started to drizzle, roads were wet and risky to drive, we were wet, no raincoats, no extra clothes, and WE WERE STILL ON THE WAY, 2 mad people and 1 bike getting pushed unnecessarily :)
ALERT: When you drive at night, take a proper gap with the vehicle ahead of you, specially when you are driving in hilly areas and more specially when you are on bike, and more specifically when its raining.
We had a experience, my friend was driving just behind a 4 wheeler, it was drizzling, roads were wet, suddenly he saw a big stone as soon as the vehicle ahead of cross crossed over it. Now the roads wouldn't allow him to show his quick response on that, because if you skid on mountain roads, you don't go just out of the road track, you can go much beyond :D He had no option other than riding over that stone, It was tough to manage but we 2 mad people had an escape. Thank to god
Bow we reached manali at 9pm, tried searching for budget hotel, but could find it since we were wet, it was Manali february cold, we were hungry, we were tired. Took one of the hotel, didn't care for what and how, went to room, removed our wet clothes, already knowing that it won't get dried and same has to be worn the next day and one more next day may be, and only unDies were dry, so we got inside the quilt, ordered for food, didnt wanted to show our brands to the waiter, so food we received on the bed inside the quilt :)
And the next morning, still it was raining, our clothes were still wet, and the bonus was we saw snow on the nearby mountain i.e. anytime it can start snowing, making it impossible to drive back to our college, means 2 mad people getting stuck in manali hotel with wet clothes and no much money in pockets to afford non-budget hotel, and buy new dry set of clothes, mind it we were in college, no credit cards also, and we didnt inform parents about this trip at that time. So the only option we had is to drive back immediately.....
And so here we are, 2 mad people again on the wet roads with wet clothes, on winter day, my feet were really chilling in the morning when wind was hitting my feet covered with 2 pair of wet socks. My chilling cold wet cheeks were expressionless. Jacket which was preventing us from cold was also wet which can be seen below.
It was just another manali trip for anybody else, but for us it was a thrilling chilling kidding experience, and that trip had built a dream for me, that is owning a piece of land and a cottage in Naggar, its a beautiful place away from city rush, in between lush greens of mountain tops, very near to the Beas river, a peaceful place to enjoy your days.
So that was our trip, starting from shimla, reaching manali at night, starting back the next morning and reaching college , hah, surely a foolishness. When we reached college and told our friends where we were, they told, ARE YOU MAD
