If there is heaven on earth... It may or may not be in Kashmir...but it is surely in the form of Niagara Falls. This place truly proves that only God can create such a beauty on this planet.
I went to this paradise with my wife in June 2016 and were completely mesmerized by the beauty and breathtaking scenes of this place. This place is visited by thousands of tourists every month and over 90% of them are Indians. Trust me when you are 13,000 Kilometres from India and if you see such a huge indian population, we almost felt at home.
We were tired after long journey from Atlanta to New York but the very first glimpse of the Niagara falls made us completely energetic and we forgot our fatigue. The Niagara falls is in shape of letter "U" so it is also called as "Horse shoe" falls. It is actually merger of niagara river from U.S side and Lake Ontario from Canada side. The water falls at approximate height of 180 feet with tremendous force making noise which is extremely pleasant to human ears.
We decided to go for a ride over Niagara river and boarded the world famous cruise "Maid of the Mist" . This ride is must for all the tourists as going to Niagara falls and not taking this cruise is a sin. Before the ride starts, we all were given blue water resistant sheets (also called as Ponchos) but trust me it hardly protects you from getting wet.
At the time of boarding this cruise, you have to be very quick and stand front in the line to grab any position on upper deck as it gives perfect spot for viewing the falls.
We were completely lost in the beauty of the falls as we both were speechless. When cruise reached very close to the falls, we were almost blind by the dense and extremely cold fog of water which made us wet but it felt extremely refreshing.
The falls are located very close to Canada border and view is much more classic from canada side but this is compensated by the cruise ride as it goes towards canada waters and then makes a U turn towards US waters. Trust me, there is no camera in the world which can click pictures in the dense fog of the falls however I tried my best to click couple of pictures.
The tickets are also very reasonable (around 20 dollars per person) and the cruise duration is about 30 minutes but its worth every cent you spend in purchasing the tickets. Once we came back on land from cruise, we decided to go for "Cave of the winds".
Cave of the winds is actually attempt from United states to give tourists the pleasure and experience of playing and getting wet by standing on an elevated wooden platform under the falls.
We both became complete wet and were drenched in water. All tourists become kids at this spot and irrespective of their age, they run, play and shout with joy below water. The pressure of falling water is so huge that it literally throws you back couple of feet if you try to stand below it.
Once we were completely exhausted, we decided to leave the falls for some time and have some food. The place is surrounded by Indian food joints, dhabas and good quality restaurants. One of the best in the area is "Punjabi Hut" restaurant. Its at a walking distance from the falls and owned by Punjabi family. Eating at this restaurant makes you feel at home as its snacks, food are super delicious and 100% Indian in taste.
Finally we came back to hotel after our adventurous first day at the falls. Next day, we decided to take a helicopter ride over the falls. The price of helicopter ride over the falls is around 125 dollars per person for a 20 minute ride. Once the helicopter starts and lifts up, it gives goosebumps.
The helicopter starts from U.S side and then goes over canada side. It then makes U turn and goes towards further deep in US area. Trust me, when it flies on the top of horse shoe falls, it feels amazing as the scenes are literally breath taking. This place is such an extra ordinary tourist place that people visit it not only during the day but also at night. It remains open throughout the night. At night, falls are completely lit with colorful bright lights from US and Canada. At night, there are no "Maid of the Mist" cruise rides over the falls and "Cave of the winds" due to safety concerns.
We were lucky to see the weekly fireworks from canada side. It adds to the beauty of the falls.Even at night, there was huge crowd to see the fireworks.
This place is so lively and extraordinary beautiful that it will not let you sleep at night. We felt like keep looking the falls throughout the night however we returned back to our hotel around 1:00 am at night and came back to Atlanta next day with numerous memories of the Niagara Falls for rest of our lives.
