Lake District .. The Lakes .. Lakeland .. there are many names by which people know this place .. but for me its Heaven on earth. Its been a long time since I traveled to this place along with my six all time buddies. Travelling with friends is always a life changing experience. At that time we all were living in England, Five were in London (Vikas, Manu, Neeraj, Saurabh and Rahul), me and Siddharth were living in Worthing, West Sussex.
It was a lazy Friday evening of a long weekend. Suddenly Sid got a call from Vikas Bansal (Living in London).
He was asking us to come down to London for weekend, and there was a plan to go to this Heavenly place.
We took national rail from Worthing and went straight to Victoria London and from there to Vikas's place by using London Tube.
Next Day at 11 AM, journey started from his place and we went to Euston and took a national rail from there to Euston. We were not having any reservation, but we were lucky enough to get a seat. It was a very nice journey.
It took around 3 hours to reach Oxenholme for such a long distance (thanks to Virgin Rail).
Our destination was Windermere. Vikas and Manu had already booked a B&B for staying there. You can easily find a B&B online for £30 - £40.
We made an enquiry at Oxenholme station about going to Windermere.
Luckily there was a train after 30 mins.
So we came out of the station and walked few steps to see the natural beauty around this station. Finally we boarded train and reached Windermere station in 20-25 mins.
After reaching to Windermere, we walked towards our pre booked B&B, thanks to google directions ;-)
One of us was very hungry and didn't realized that its around 3PM and asked for breakfast :D
Lady over there, gave him a very weird look. suddenly he realized his mistake and came back to room. I am still smiling while writing this wonderful memory.
We quickly grabbed some snacks and found out that lake is at a walking distance, so we started walking towards that place its called "Bowness on Windermere". As soon as we reached that place .. it was an Wowww moment for all of us. We just sat there on bench, clicked few pics, walked here and there. It was truely an awesome starting to a lifetime experience.
Lake and Hills view
Finally we came back to our B&B and had some sandwiches as dinner and retired our Bed. Caretaker lady arranged a guided tour for us for next morning just for £35 per person. It was really worth. Guy came in the morning with his Traveller mini bus. All 7 of us boarded the bus and journey started. He drove us to the first place:
1. Visiting Beatrix Potter's house at Hill Top.
I certainly don't who this Potter is, I, only know Harry Potter :D :D. But one thing was for sure this place was really awesome. Took few pictures along with our guide Mark.
After this Mark took us to a Valley .. Doesn't remember its name .. but it was really nature at its best. took few shots there as well
Next destination William Wordsworth's house in Grasmere. Here comes the foolish question from one of us though he was so called MONT educated .. don't know how he missed this poet's name.Mark was literally pissed off, when that Guy asked "Mark, who was William Wordsworth?". Mark was blank for 2 second, may he was murmuring something in his mind :D :D
We took few snaps at Wordsworth Grammer school and at his inspirational house THE DOVE COTTAGE.
After this Mark took us to grab some lunch at a midway place. Obviously we took few pics here as well.
After 1 Hour break, journey started again. Mark took us for long boat ride, which was really soothing and calm. We really enjoyed it.
Panoramic view from our boat.
In the Boat
From there Mark picked us and took us to a new destination in the valley .... Graphite and Slate Mining ... We took few snaps here as well.
We moved towards our next destination that was CASTLERIGG. That seems to be a younger Brother of stone hinges.
After this Mark took us to some Valley, which is very famous for its speedy wind. We took few snaps here as well.
That was the last place which was covered in Mark's package. He left us at BOWNESS. We stayed there for a while. Clicked few pics again and took a ferry ride.
Finally we started our journey back from Windermere Station to Oxenholme and from there to Euston. And late in the evening we were back in London. So guys if you stay in the outskirts of London or in London, Lake District is just a weekend away .. Its a really must have weekend getaway.
